Note: Frank Hollar served in the Martian Orbit Guard from the time he was eighteen until retirement at sixty-eight. He was frequently decorated for his service, and his final rank was Chief Petty Officer (E-7). After retirement, he found himself bored, and leveraged his rank and influence into a position at the MCPD. He rose quickly through the ranks, and proved to be a competent and dedicated – if linguistically colorful – detective. His attitude and language, of course, were heavily molded by his fifty years in the Orbit Guard. “Fucking the bunk” is spacer slang meaning essentially “losing sleep, but not getting anything useful done”
