Note: Police in Mars City are trained with firearms, but typically do not carry them unless it’s clear that an armed conflict is probable. The gun James Mouse carries here is a Baldor Ranged Armed Conflict Enterprises Advanced Law Enforcement Firearm (BALEF to the officers who carry them). It features an semi-safe re-aiming system, standard in all law enforcement weapons at this level, which creates micro adjustments to the barrel (after analysis from a high-speed camera above the muzzle) at the moment of firing to ensure that no lethal shots are made. This same system can be used in conjunction with a laser sight to place accurate shots on non-human targets. The systems are, of course, banned in competition target shooting.
