Note:   Of course, as most readers would already know, Zigmunt was right. His idea to disperse a cloud of uncut super nitrates into the atmosphere to temper the bloom spores and reduce the wind plague’s effects was sound, even if his methods were frantic, dangerous, and unofficial. Once investigated, and properly tested, a device very like the one Zigmunt had constructed was eventually used, and dozens of lives per year were saved from the wind plague. The courts later agreed with the police department, that Zigmunt had no authorization to use such a drastic device, and that Detectives Mouse and Hollar did the right thing in stopping him, but it’s estimated that if his rogue device had been allowed to activate when he had originally planned, hundreds more lives would have been saved.
