Note: The Acuity Sensitivity Test (AST) was designed and implemented by the Sol Department of Psychic Security (DoPS in the wake of increased regulation of Mentats demanded by the Expanded Acuity Control Act. The First Acuity Control Act only required that Mentats register themselves and define their powers with the Sol government, but it was essentially a voluntary system, and this second piece of legislation sought to add some enforcement to the basic ideas in the first one. Thus, all adults were required to take a basic test that showed their sensitivity to Phase fields. If they showed sensitivity above a certain threshold, they were required to undergo additional evaluation so that their acuities could be measured and categorized.
