Note: Records show that Sofia Anderson was likely a real person, though her story here is dramatized, of course. Sofia was a strong Hydro Spec. Mentat that lived in the Central Xanthe Envi Zone outside of Mars City. Cases like hers were frequently pointed to by opponents of the AST, who argued that it indiscriminately and needlessly upended people’s lives, and altered their social identities. Sofia was strong, yes, but living in Central Xanthe it was unlikely that she would ever come into contact with a Phase Field Generator (or Mental Acuity Engine as they were called later), much less be within a phase field at the same time as large quantities of water. So, it’s very likely that she could have gone her entire life not even knowing that she was a mentat.
