Note: During this era, Mars was still a young civilization with a younger government. Despite its academic origins, it had a lot in common with a frontier government. Security was valued above privacy in almost all circumstances and justice was often swift and lawless, made all the swifter by advances in surveillance technology – like real-time facial recognition satellite searches, something that wouldn’t have been remotely possible in earlier frontier-style governments, including Luna, which had only been settled fifty years earlier than Mars. The search depicted here would be referenced extensively five years later during the first major quorum on privacy.
