Note: In the age of interplanetary rocket-travel, interactive fiction, especially stories in the ‘exploration genre’ become an increasingly important part of the media landscape. When you’re on a journey with weeks, or even months, of just sitting in a cabin with little to do, exploring a vast virtual world becomes a good tool for escape and time consumption. Spacers also read a lot of books, watched a lot of films, and even produced significant quantities of their own art, but exploration-focused video games were the primary time-sink for the culture, and consumed more person-hours than all other activities combined.
